Introduction
Let me introduce you to one of my favorite spots – A New Beginning – a Chinese green restaurant to brighten up your let’s-make-a-difference passion. Onas its name suggest the restaurant provides a new direction towards achieving sustainable and ethical food system. It is our purpose to offer scrumptious Chinese dishes that would make people happy and supply their body with nutrients coming from fresh organic products in the United States.
Our Roots and Ethos
A New Beginning is owned by Lisa Wang who has worked as a waiter in several different Chinese restaurants for more than 15 years. In time Lisa also came to understand how many of the old practices of the restaurant business are almost predatory: pushing food that is likely to go to waste, sourcing meat from factory farming systems. This ignited Lisa’s desire to change the world in a positive way through ethical consumption or actually through food production.
She wanted the restaurant to serve delicious Chinese food that will make people happy while also making a healthy choice. That which practices ‘green’ and supports the community to the extent possible. It has been a dream of ours to open up this store for years and through hardwork, careful strategy and planning, A New Beginning has found a home in the bustling city centre of our town.
Some of the deep values that underpin our restaurant are sustainability, responsible sourcing, food waste management, and supporting the community. Our intention is to make dining more social and engaging so that guests are not only consuming culinary works but also interacting with dishes on a degree of intimacy with farmers and chefs and the consumers themselves from a restaurant around you.
The Ambience
When you walk into our charming 2 floor restaurant you will immediately feel like you are in your own home. I have maintained most of the shades today a minimalistic style but have included some pieces of Chinese art and lanterns. Dominating the walls there are canvas painting China’s nature scenes produced by our own harassed local artists.
It sounds like the faint hurricane of dishes and conversation echoing from our exposed kitchen. The herb garden is placed right in the centre of the dining area and it does release natural smell. The furniture is made from recycled wooden pallets and factory offs – with green cushion to give out the feeling of newness.
During summer, for example, huge glass windows allow the spring breeze to penetrate the building by either folding them up or down. We are affordably priced and our alfresco seating lets you view the downtown activity right under the looming trees.
Ingredients and Menu
At A New Beginning, we made sure that the dishes we had displayed a fusion of both traditional and contemporary Chinese tastes and we made them using fresh local and organic ingredients.
Here are some of our hero ingredients:
Organic tofu product of Chang farmstead
We source our silky tofu from a local, hot food manufacture and just 5 miles down the road from our restaurant. Our foods are processed naturally from locally sourced soy beans and spring water, and are not preserved or supplemented with additional ingredients. We receive supplies on a daily basics three times a week to guarantee freshness.
Pasture Raised Chicken from Green Hills Farm
All of our chicken is ethical pasture raised at family owned farm located in nearby hill country. It is worth to note that these happy chickens are free ranging and give you quality meat and eggs that are packed with nutrients.
Seasonal Local Vegetables
Approximately, 78 percent of the veggies that we employ are purchased locally and farmers markets in order to decrease our sustainability. We are able to change our menus from one season to another depending on the nearest available market produce like lettuce during spring or sweet potatoes during winter.
Our specialty includes a selection of appetizers and Soups and main Chinese course combined with vegan diet meals and homemade drinks. Some guest favorites include:
Crispy Cauliflower Manchurian
Juicy pan fried Potstickers with spiced tofu stuffing
Hot and Sour Soup full of mushrooms, bamboo shoots and tofu
General Tso’s Cauliflower made in tangy spiced sauce
Grateful and delicious Buddha Bowls full of grains , green and pickles
This dish is considered sweet and sour lentils with pineapple and peppers.
Fragrant Jasmine Green Tea
Purple Passionfruit Mocktails and Dragonfruit Mocktails
We also are able to provide FREE vegetable business lunches and vegetable dinner parties for business organizations and companies.
Sustainable Practices
Sustainability of our environment forms the core of our operations. Some ways we tread lightly on our planet include:
1. Using local, organic and 90% seasonal food from local suppliers
2. By adopting the renewable energy sources to meet out energy needs in the restaurant.
3. Single use plastics ban, I still remember wanting a plastic fork that was plant based and biodegradable instead of the current take out food containers all could be biodegradable were biodegradable.
4. Treating water through internal greywater facilities The following are developed in-house greywater treatment systems.
5. Organic farming of all food incorporating all food waste and leftovers.
6. Offering apps used in weekly Farmers Markets to enhance food transportation mileage.
Giving Back
We are committed in our mission to make a positive difference both to people and the planet. That is why every year, 1% of our profit goes towards the general causes of supporting the community, food, and farming in our region, as well as cultural projects.
We also have at least one community event per month be it GREEN Talks sharing about recent victories in environmental causes or Friendship meals for which prepare and serve food to those addressing homelessness. Come one come all, all are WELCOME at this page!!!
